FOR OUR COMMUNITY BY OUR STUDENTS
In addition to exploring a wide range of topics, students can sharpen their writing and research skills through hands-on writing and editing experience with The Growl. Not only can they report on school events and interview peers, they also have the opportunity to analyze complex issues, share poetic pieces, and dive into trending topics. As contributors they'll learn many of the ins and outs of journalism and communication. The content, chosen and written by our students for our community, reflects the vibrant and diverse voices of our student body.
With something for everyone, The Growl provides students a safe space to collaborate, learn, and express their perspectives about the school and beyond!

THE FOUNDING OF THE GROWL
In early 2023, rising seniors Chloe L. and Marela C. approached Ms. Royale McCormack about the potential to found a school newspaper at TASIS Dorado. While there had been newsletters and blogs prior to that point, the school had never established a dedicated newspaper. After much discussion and deliberating in the early Fall, the Bear News Club was created and introduced to the student body. Seven brave students joined the club in various positions, from Editors in Chief to photographers and columnists. The group chose activities around campus upon which to investigate and write, with Chloe and Marela being the founding editors. Students worked tirelessly throughout the year to generate three captivating issues, including the especially popular satire edition printed on April 1st.
RETURNING WITH A BANG!
When our 2023 seniors graduated, they undoubtedly left a big hole on campus, and the TASIS student newspaper was definitely one of those areas where their absence was felt. With the main editors gone, the newspaper seemed ill-fated to be a thing of the past. However, several of our students enthusiastically brought the newspaper back to life! In addition to recruiting peers to be writers and editors, they meet together to select meaningful topics and create well-written pieces to share with the TASIS Dorado community.
While Ms. Royale was on medical leave, our Research & Writing Lab Specialist stepped in, providing guidance for our newspaper student staff. Through the combined effort of Mr. Kris and these dedicated students, the newspaper went in just a few weeks from a memory to a sought-after read.
We're amazed yet not surprised at the accomplishment of our students! Through their collaborative efforts, they published, not one or two but three issues! Because that's what we do at TASIS Dorado: we don't just survive; we thrive!
We're excited to see what they have in store next year. They're sure to include even more thoughtful and compelling pieces!
