The Cape Cod Maritime Museum (CCMM)sponsored a student art exhibit. The exhibit theme is Cape Cod Ecology, Cape Cod flora and fauna, and maritime subjects as they apply to Cape Cod culture. Artworks address environmental issues like plastic pollution and climate change.
Before the school year ended, STAGE held auditions and its first read-through for our fall production of She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen. Over 70 students from both East and West (including incoming freshmen!) came out to audition for the play, making the task of casting the show extremely difficult for directors Anna Botsford and Diana Young. With a final cast of 35 and a crew of 51, we held the first read-thru this past Tuesday. It was a great way for STAGE to end the school year with some excitement and hype for next year!
East IB Art junior Paige Wielgus has volunteered her time with a non-profit called the Cape Cod Anti-Litter Coalition. The intention is to educate the public about not littering and how litter causes damage to our environment, aside from the disruptive and unkempt aesthetic value to our communities.
East IB Art junior Sydney Faranetta completed her CAS project in collaboration with Child & Family Services, a mental health agency located in Hyannis, to create a mural representing the theme of "Vision of Hope". This organization provides outpatient and community-based services to children, adults, and families across Cape Cod. Art Project Hope is a program that consists of high school art students throughout Cape Cod who adopt a blank canvas and create their collective "vision of hope". The artwork is displayed at the Child & Family Services office in the "Hallway of Hope" for clients and sets the tone for mental health support.
Another year of Sturgis East IB Art Exhibition Celebrations. We graduated 25 incredibly talented and creative young artists, who spent the last two years thinking, learning, writing and experimenting with art in all forms to compile an impressive three component IB art submission, while the exhibition is only one component, it’s certainly the one that visually expresses each IB art student's artistic journey.
The Senior IB Art Exhibition was a huge success! Seniors presented all of the artwork that they completed in the past two years. The school community was invited to view the exhibit and enjoy some cake and refreshments. This is a wonderful celebration and time for the senior IB students to publicly show and discuss the work that is part of The Curatorial portion of the course. HL students submitted 8 - 11 pieces of art along with a 700 word Curatorial Rationale. SL students submitted 4 - 8 pieces of art along with a 400 word Curatorial Rationale.
Each year after IB art coursework submissions students get to leave their visual mark on our school by creating their own original tile to leave as an adornment of the main hall ceiling. This tradition started in 2005, and has been going strong ever since.
Maeve Pappas and Jocelyn Cohen created this beautiful mural in the breezeway between the 427 and 441 buildings. This beautiful mural surely will brighten everyones day on their way to class.
