During this past year, students have been challenged in many ways. They have had to adapt to the "new normal" of learning, of having less contact with people, and of spending many hours sitting at their computers. Despite this, Sturgis students have exceeded our expectations and have grown tremendously.
Here are a few of our students thoughts and observations about learning in a pandemic!
Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.

"The universe took its time on you
crafted you precisely
so you could offer the world
something distinct from everyone else
so when you doubt
how you were created
you doubt an energy greater than us both"

“What is easy won’t last, What lasts won’t be easy" I think this quote sums up things. We put the time, energy, and work into creating something it will last. If we rush it, then we will lose it quickly.

As it nears around March there seems to be no sign of this virus stopping.
The virus doesn’t only take victims but they take hostages.
We are hostages in this global pandemic. Covering our faces everywhere we go.
Everyone is unknown.
Last year was when it started and we were told that it was only going to be two weeks out of school and we will be back in no time.
Then the virus took more victims and the online classes started.
Grades were slipping. Friendships were drifting. Personal contact was forbidden.
Everyone wanted it to be over by summer but yet it never ended.
The fireworks were canceled and the grocery stores were closed.
We even ran out of toilet paper.
Then we slowly started seeing the light.
More places opened and more people were leaving the houses.
Summer ended and the class of 2024 Sturgis were thrown into a whole new environment with people they didn’t even know existed.

"Students aren't able to do all of the fun and interactive activities in a classroom anymore. It's also much harder making new friends and talking to new students because we can't hangout in the hallways, but the Sturgis teachers have done an amazing job making with making my first year at Sturgis interesting and exciting."
Lauren Rhude, Freshmen - West
"As tough as this year has been, everyone is trying their best. There is not a single person that is not affected by the pandemic, yet both teachers and students are trying their best to succeed and keep pushing forward."

"This school year has been very different, but I appreciate the efforts that teacher's make to make the class more enjoyable and personal. I love getting to know my fellow classmates through activities; it is a way to make stronger social connections from so far away."

TWO OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES FROM MR. CHURCHILL during this time (it's kind of funny that they rhyme). "A cat holding a heart. Yay!" "The Internet's falling apart."
