Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! We were able to begin the new school year with excellent news: Sturgis Charter Public School was recognized as a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. We received this award (minute 16:36) after having been nominated by the Massachusetts’ Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as an exemplary high performing school.
Sturgis is:
the first public school since 2007 within our sending regions (Cape Cod, Carver, Plymouth, and Wareham) to earn this award. Joining us in that distinction is fellow 2023 awardee Manomet Elementary School in Plymouth.
one of seven Massachusetts public high schools to have won this award within the past 10 years.
one of five Massachusetts charter public schools to have ever won this award.
one of 113 Massachusetts public schools to have ever won this award.
one of six public schools within our sending regions to have ever won this award.
the second public high school within our sending regions to have ever won this award.
Sturgis was also recognized by the U.S. News and World Report ranking as the #4 Public High School in MA, #179 in he country and #48 charter school nationwide.
These accolades recognize and reflect our staff, students, parents, and trustee's commitment to our mission of IB for All!
To mark the beginning of their Sturgis Journey, freshmen attended convocation at 529, where they met with their Advisors before their first day of school. Also, freshmen from both campuses went to Camps Burgess to get to know their classmates, make social connections and reflect on the current school year. After that, they continued the tradition of signing the Captain's Logbook, in which all students sign their name at the beginning of their Sturgis journey and then again when their journey ends at graduation.
We have 17 new (and returning!) faculty members joining us with a wide variety of experience and backgrounds, you will be able to learn more about them in this edition.
In this "Back to School" edition you will also be able to look into what activities have taken place over the first month or so of school. This school year seems very promising!
Thank you to those who helped and contributed to this edition. If you missed the any of the 2022 - 2023 Editions, you can still read them in the 2022-2023 Archives.
