Cynthia Gallo has retired from Sturgis this spring after an admirable 20 year career!
Cindy will be missed for her pedagogical leadership and visionary ideals that set the bar high as the school grew to two campuses and doubled its student body enrollment in 2012. As IB Coordinator, Lead Science teacher and teacher of IB Environmental Systems and Societies, Cindy’s intellectual passions impacted students and faculty alike. Always ready to show her students new ways of understanding our natural world, she helped students of all abilities thrive within her classroom, on IB assessments and on the Group Four projects.
As IB Coordinator, Cindy helped Sturgis navigate many challenges over the years as the IB program evolved and the faculty expanded; she always had her pulse on the latest opportunities for intellectual and cultural growth, as well as student access to world class education.
One of the highlights of her career was being awarded two grants from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in order to pursue infield experiences for her students.
Prior to Sturgis, Cindy was a stay at home mom and volunteered in the Falmouth school system while raising her two sons. She is a very proud mom who enjoyed watching both of her sons graduate from Sturgis East: Peter, Class of 2005 and Joe, Class of 2010.
Cindy began her career on Wall Street which she decided to leave to pursue the study of the ocean at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography. This eventually led her to a job at WHOI in the Sea Grant Office. Little did she know that Pete Sampou, her classmate at URI, would later be working with her in the science department at Sturgis East.
We wish her the best of luck as she is already training to be an IB Consultant and is looking forward to finally having the time to join her husband, Dave Gallo, on all of his travels around the world as he gives talks about the importance of the ocean in our lives.
Cheers Cindy, to your next adventure and thank you for the immense inspirational imprint that you have left as a legacy to our school and our lives!
