Welcome to the Sturgis Soundings Summer 2022 edition! After the past two years and everything the pandemic entailed, we were very fortunate to have had an excellent school year. A lot that we had gone without, returned and we were able to experience those things we missed so much during the height of the pandemic (traveling, spending time with friends and family, seeing people’s faces!).
We hope you enjoy reflecting on the past school year with these Soundings feature articles in addition to our notes & accolades page and creative ventures article.
In addition to all the exciting events that took place this year at East and West, U.S. News and World Report's 2022 public high school rankings identified Sturgis as the #3 public high school in Massachusetts, #164 in the United States, and #40 charter school nationwide! Also, the Jay Mathews' Challenge Index (the evolution of what once was the Newsweek rankings) places Sturgis #162 in the country. This index includes both private and public high schools, meaning Sturgis ranks even higher amongst public high schools in this index than with U.S. News!
These rankings recognize and reflect our staff, students, parents, and trustees' commitment to our mission of IB For All. This year's rankings are especially well-earned, I find, as they are testament to the extraordinary work and dedication of our entire community throughout the pandemic.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this edition by providing us with articles, information, photographs, and videos. Much like everything that is done at Sturgis, Soundings is a collaborative effort and a reflection of our wonderful community.
Enjoy your reading,
Camille Manrique
