Extended Blind Contour

Real "Boy"

Marker pen and graphite pencil on paper

9" x 4.5"

The general idea at first was some sort of humanoid robot. Then, throughout the creation of this piece, I connected this to some of the internal conflicts that I am having: conflicts of who I am.

It was made starting with a Sharpie pen for the original lines, and then graphite pencils for the extended details and shading.

At first I noticed the general shape of a head, and what appeared to be a jagged jaw. This led me to the idea of a robotic organism, but at first it didn't mean anything to me. It was simply a robot. And then came the challenge of what to do with the mess of lines at the bottom. Then it hit me: that's his 'heart.' And from there I went with a Frankenstein/Pinocchio hybrid. Now this piece represents the conflict of what I really am.
