foundations of art

Art History Inspired Project

for this project i used only pencils. i had the idea of wanting to make something with a sunset so i took claude monet's idea of his work and made a sunset, then i also wanted something different and colorful so i used beatriz idea of her work and made a little city.

This year's art foundations have been both easy and difficult. We've covered a lot of ground in art foundations this year, and it's clear to see how far i've come.

You can plainly tell what I struggle with and what comes naturally to me in foundations of painting throughout the last year. We've worked on a lot of projects with clear instructions, rules, and deadlines. We've also done projects where we get to choose the project and the materials we utilize. Personally, I believe that I struggle with projects where we are required to use specific metals and follow specific criteria. It's easier for me, even if we have projects where we get to pick everything. This is probably easier for me since when I think about art, I imagine myself making a piece rather than being instructed what to do. Though I like that it's something I've battled with in the past so I can improve.

I believe you can see how my shading has improved my work. I've never been particularly good at shading, but I believe Miss Medsker has taught me a lot this year. She primarily assisted me with shading and taught me more about shading while we worked with charcoal.

Wire sculpture was by far the most difficult assignment for me. Not only did I injure myself with the wire, but it was also difficult to shape. I've used tools and dealt with wire previously. But I didn't expect it to be that difficult. It was difficult for me to get the fish hook thing to join my parts. I'd become impatient as well, because dealing with wire requires patience and time. I don't think I'll ever do another wiring job unless something changes in my thinking. Though it was interesting to see how some individuals had a lot easier time working with wire, and their creations were really beautiful to look at, despite the fact that they knew how difficult it was to make it look realistic and good.

The space project was my favorite of all the projects I completed this year. I drew a wolf's head and shaded it with small spirals. This project appealed to me because it was one of the simpler ones, and mine turned out well. I wish I had done the complete wolf body rather than just the head since it would have given me more room to do different designs other than spirals and dots.

I'm not sure what I'll do for art during the summer. My mother is a painter, and I have previously collaborated with her on projects. Painting is both calming and enjoyable for me. When it comes to art, it's definitely my favorite thing to do. But, if I don't paint this summer, I'm planning on customizing my Converse. My converse, for example, are now all white. I also intend to stitch flowers and plants on the sides. Sunflowers and perhaps some pink flowers strewn over the shoes come to mind.

Overall Foundations of art has been a lot of fun; it's my favorite class since we get to design and interact with our classmates. Also, our instructor, Miss Medsker, has been fantastic, putting up with all of our (or rather, mine) inquiries. As well as guiding us through each phase,so a big thank you to her for not only guiding me through this year but helping me with each project.
