For this project, our assignment was to make a teapot but incorporate something unique into it. it didnt have to be functional, but it had to have the parts of a teapot. My idea of an elephant came from one of the student examples, i liked the idea of making an animal out of a teapot, and I figured that an elephant would be the easiest.
I first started with a sketch. I knew I wanted the body to be round, and the handle to be twisted. but that was about all I was sure about. Once I got my final sketch done I began to bring my idea to life. My first try was a failure. I had made the base, as in the body of the teapot way too big, and it was getting towards the oval shape, which was not what I was planning for at all. my second attempt started coming together perfectly. I started with a pinch pot, let it get leather hard, and then smooth it out. the trunk and the tail of the elephant I thought was going to be the hardest part of this project, but to my surprise, it was pretty simple. I easily attached them to the body and began with my top. for the ears of the elephant, I wasn't originally going to do ears like in the sketch, but once my elephant was done, it felt like something was missing. so I decided to put on ears.
Overall, I am really happy with how this project came out, and I think it is my favorite project out of the ones I have done so far. And if I had to change something about my teapot, I would make the lid of the teapot fit more snugly into the body of the teapot.
