Definition: A Rube Goldberg Machine is a machine made to do a simple task in an indirect and overly complicated way.
Our main elements of design were of course making the board look like a carnival. We had purposefully painted the board red and white stripes and outlined so it looked like a carnival tent. We painted our lever and inclined planes all different bright colors to contrast off the red and white. We then added a bunch of fun things to our board like a fun house and a ferris wheel. We added some games like the balloon pop and the knocking over the cans.
Our Machine Theme was Carnival Or Fair. We chose our theme because when we decided on our theme when it was right after summer. We were thinking of all the fun experiences we had over the summer. One thing that popped into our mind was the Main County Fair. We decided to make that our theme and base it off a carnival or fair. Our end task was to make a confetti popper go off to represent fireworks at the carnival.
Steps:
This is our final blueprint for our Rube Goldberg machine. Each square represents two inches. The board in total is 48 inches by 48 inches. Everything is drawn to size and dimensions are correct.

The speed of something in a given direction. We used velocity in our project by finding the velocity of one or two of our steps.
Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity of an object with respect to time. An object's acceleration is the net result of all forces acting on the object, as described by Newton's Second Law.
A force is any interaction that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object. A force can cause an object with mass to change its velocity, i.e., to accelerate. Force can also be described intuitively as a push or a pull.
Work, in physics, measure of energy transfer that occurs when an object is moved over a distance by an external force at least part of which is applied in the direction of the displacement
Potential energy is the energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects, stresses within itself, its electric charge, or other factors.
Kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion. It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its stated velocity.
Mechanical advantage is a measure of the force amplification achieved by using a tool, mechanical device or machine system.
An inclined plane, also known as a ramp, is a flat supporting surface tilted at an angle, with one end higher than the other, used as an aid for raising or lowering a load. We had many inclined planes in our project. They definitely helped move along the marbles being used in the project.
A lever is a simple machine consisting of a beam or rigid rod pivoted at a fixed hinge, or fulcrum. A lever is a rigid body capable of rotating on a point on itself. We had one lever in our machine.
A pulley is a wheel on an axle or shaft that is designed to support movement and change of direction of a taut cable or belt, or transfer of power between the shaft and cable or belt. We had one pulley in our machine.
The wheel and axle is a machine consisting of a wheel attached to a smaller axle so that these two parts rotate together in which a force is transferred from one to the other. We had one wheel and axle in our project because we used a toy car. The wheels on the car counted as our wheel and axle.
A wedge is a triangular shaped tool, and is a portable inclined plane, and one of the six classical simple machines. It can be used to separate two objects or portions of an object, lift up an object, or hold an object in place. We had one wedge when the nail popped the balloon.
A screw is a mechanism that converts rotational motion to linear motion, and a torque to a linear force. We had one screw in our machine. The marble fell through the twisted tunnel. The tunnel is our screw.
These are our calculations of each step in our machine.
