This unit we learned how to annotate poems, write poems, and about figurative and literary terms.
I was born on February 22, 2005, that makes me a Pisces
Not quite sure what that tells me
I don't know how to dance
I'm a sucker for good music
Music is the water for the flowers growing in my head
I'm still learning to express myself
I’m often on tik tok laughing
I like laughing...a lot
I've been told that I get really quiet like a turtle, unable to form a good sentence
Secretly I just feel alone and want some time
I have this old fascination with being alone with myself and thinking
Hi, my name is Melissa
I enjoy laughing with friends and playing sports
But I don't allow myself to say how I'm feeling so I lie
I have good friends and a good family
My hobbies are spending too much time on tik tok, and netflix
I don't know much, but I do know this
I know people will be there for me
I know something good will come out of everything
I know to take risks.
^Our first poem mainly using metaphors and similes. We were asked to write about what our life is about using metaphors and similes. Write about what we enjoy and what makes us happy.
Up the thirteen steps
Down the short bright hallway
The door open slowly
With one step you enter into the room
Your feet warm from the carpet as soft as snow
You see the mess of paints scattered in the corner
The pictures taped so the memories stay
You take a glance around the room is messy
The room is messy like only animals lived there
But the room is unique once you really look
The paintings on the wall that make the room feel it’s own
The room smells of a candle that melting away like ice in the hot sun
The smell of sweet flowers escaping into the rest of the house
The blankets you pick up are soft then folded into perfect squares
The mirror clear as day never forgetting every moment
Never forgetting each laugh and each night that faded away
You hear the noise of a family downstairs
One cooking the other laughing
The memories made that won’t be forgotten, not at all.
^Our second poem focusing more on using the six senses. We focused on writing about a memory or a special place in your life. Describing it using the six senses.
Just because I am young
Doesn’t mean I’m immature
Doesn’t mean I can’t handle things
Doesn’t mean I don’t know what I’m doing
I am intelligent
Just because I am a girl
Doesn’t mean I can't play sports
Doesn’t mean I don’t understand
Doesn’t mean I literally lose it when something bad happens
Doesn’t mean I am not a hard worker
I am an athlete
Just because I don’t talk a lot
Doesn’t mean I am sad
Doesn’t mean I’m mad
Sometimes it takes the effort I don’t have
I am tired
Just because I look happy
Doesn’t mean I always am
Doesn’t mean my smile is always fake
Doesn’t mean I don’t have an opinion
I am loyal
Just because I laugh a lot
Doesn’t mean I can control my laughing
Doesn’t mean I don’t pay attention
Doesn’t mean I have a lot of friends
I am good person
^Using lots of figurative language. we wrote about what makes us us, and what we are proud of.
Thank you for making me laugh
I don’t think I could live without you
You all are like my home
You make me happy like the sun
Thank you for the memories you’ve given me
The good and the bad
I thank you for the times when I need your help
You are the siblings I never had
Thank you for making me do my best
Giving me the push I needed
Thank you for giving me advice when I needed it
I don’t think I could live without you
Your help, and all the memories we’ve made
^An ode to someone who made a difference in our lives. We wrote about something in life that made us happy or something we use almost everyday.
Over the course of this unit I feel I used lots of critical thinking. Poetry isn't one of my strong suits so writing poems could be very challenging. I was able to use time management to get my poems done and in a way that made me feel like it was a successful poem. I also think I was good at communicating because whenever I needed help from a friend or anyone I was able to get the help I needed. I think I could work on more of my work ethic and organization. I think that my work ethic could use some work because I need more management to get stuff done. The poems were hard, but I think I got them done in a way where I was proud after each one. Poetry was one of the harder units for me because it is hard to make sure everything makes sense and when needed it had to rhyme. This unit made me a stronger writer and more confident in my writing. I think that I worked well and asked for help when I needed it. This was a great unit and it made me a much better writer, thinker, and learner.
Dear brain,
You have a bad sense of humor
You make me laugh at anything
Then again you help me see the good
The happiness you show me
The smile you made me
You cry out for me to decide
Yet you always make me indecisive
Brain, you have thought through everything
A million times you have replayed the moments
You dealt with the pain
Made sure I was ok
Brought me back from what felt like hell
Thank you for not breaking down
For making the plans and helping them through
For helping me choose
