Sunlight: For our way to keep enough sunlight for the plants to grow but also enough shade for people on hot days, we planted 3 trees in the back of our build area. This way we have it placed out so that our plants will still get the required sunlight that they need and we can sit back in the shade while still being close enough to see it. We placed our trees in between of each of the 6 benches so that way there will always be three benches in the shade all day long.
Water: We built our creek bed down in such a way so that it will lead straight to the storm drain we have so it will also behave like a highway for the water to get down to the drain so that we will have no flooding.
In our new S.T.E.M. space we have a couple of ways for our students and teachers to both get around relax. For people to get around our creek bed we put abridge that will lead form the new building straight over to the sidewalk which is next to the door. We also put a bunch of benches which can be used to eat lunch and to do work outside.
For our material choices we took time to find items that were both cheaper and still of high quality. We found a bridge that was made of pine which we found would wear the least and not take in to much water. We also called a couple of stores to find the best kind of rocks and tanbark that-would work for our space. We picked out benches that were green to go with our school colors, we also made sure that they didn't have holes in them so that it wasn't challenging to write on them.
