As we start to leave winter behind, St Michael’s School and the PTA are asking you to come together to compete in the race across the world challenge.
From the 1st to 31st March, working together for the good of all as a school community, and competing in our ‘School Houses’, (Viewfield, Melrose, Seymour and Granville) we want to race across the world to our global partners in Kenya, the Red Maasai Academy with special achievement prizes for those making the most effort and travelling the furthest. We are aiming to rise to the challenge ourselves and complete the 6,000 miles from Granville Road to Olorte, Kenya.
This will be a virtual race across the world, starting at St Michael's School and ending at the Red Maasai Academy in Kenya.
We want the families of St Michael's School to get moving in March by walking, running, cycling, skipping, hopping, jumping... as much as they can to collectively travel from the school gate to the Red Maasai Academy.
For those able and willing to use Strava (a phone app that maps your journey and the distance covered) it's a simple matter of joining your School House and remembering to press start each time you exercise. We will also be keeping track of those all important miles with leaderboards and a map to track your progress on the St Michael's dedicated website page. Pupil’s parents and family living in their households can also clock up miles for their child’s house, whether or not their child is with them. So it can be a full on whole school community event. Please log all your activities as a “run” on Strava otherwise it will not be recorded!
Throughout the month there will be tips on healthy food ideas, stretching, and conditioning exercises to boost your training plan, plus videos to promote how the funds raised could be spent to improve educational opportunities for Red Maasai Academy.
A big map will feature on both the website and displayed in school which will be updated each week with the progress of each House, and the overall progress towards the goal of reaching the Red Maasai Academy.
We encourage you to send in your exercise adventures as we will be preparing a weekly video montage of pupils and parents enjoying their
walk/run/cycles.
Our aim is to raise enough money to feed the 230 children who attend The Masaai Academy school, for an entire year, for breakfast and lunch. The total cost of this in 2021 will be £4,420.
We are suggesting a £10 donation per family which will be split between the Red Maasai Academy and the PTA. If you are able and would like to donate more please do. 100% of donations above the first £10 will go towards the Red Masaai.
Please make donations in the normal way via Ticket Tailor.
Good luck and let’s share the ray of hope to everyone!
Kind regards
AMG & The PTA
