All students sit Morrisby psychometric profiling early in Year 11, followed by a Career interview in October.
The objective portrait of the student that emerges from the process is a useful anchor for building self-knowledge, encouraging aspirations, and making confident subject choices for the next phase of education.
Familiarity with psychometric assessments gives students a leading edge when encountering them later in the context of internship and job applications. The Morrisby "login for life" allows them to revisit their profiles as their education progresses.
Students can access their results and career suggestions online, at Morrisby Online , using their personal login and password. They are advised to review their results and interview report, and explore career suggestions and IB subject profiles, as part of the IB Options process.
In the second term of Y12, students will complete a Study Interests questionnaire to help with higher education choices. As long as they are at school, they will have periodic ongoing support from an independent team of career advisers, to supplement our in-house programme.
Morrisby Online also offers a wealth of general information and resources on English-medium higher education in Europe, along with overviews of career sectors, and hundreds of job profiles.
In years 12 and 13, students’ continuing career investigation & skills development is supported by subject-specific curricular links in Managebac and Google Classroom; academic projects, such as the Extended Essay and Internal Assessments; involvement in co-curricular Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS); and the summer enrichment courses, work experience or internships students often take on. Representatives of EU and other higher education institutions regularly visit the school, and we host the annual UK Universities' Tour and Portuguese University Fair.
CAS, in particular, enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through experience, as well as enabling them to respond to real-world, practical challenges using a collaborative, team-based approach. These skills, along with the critical thinking and creativity fostered by the IB Diploma, are much sought after by employers.
