The purpose of this website is to provide students and parents with information to enable students to select the programme and subjects that best fit their requirements. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to ask. We, at St. Julian's, are committed to providing you with all the help that you need. Students currently in Year 11 can direct their questions through their tutor, but of course can also ask subject teachers, their Head of Year, the Student Futures team or Dr Dina Shah (Deputy Principal KS5 and IB DP and CP coordinator)
Students from outside the School should direct their questions to Dr Dina Shah (Deputy Principal KS5 and IB DP and CP coordinator) at dshah@stjulians.com or the Secondary Office at life secondary@stjulians.com
The International Baccalaureate Programmes encourage both personal development and academic achievement. The programmes are not based on the pattern of any single country, but are a deliberate compromise between the specialisation required in some national systems and the breadth preferred in others.
The programmes encourage students to think critically, to ask the right questions and think across disciplines. An IB education also fosters diversity, curiosity and a healthy appetite for learning.
Only schools officially approved by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) are authorised to offer the programmes and to present candidates for examination.
Further information can be found at www.ibo.org
The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The general objectives of the IB are:
to provide students with a balanced education
to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility
to promote international understanding through a shared academic experience
The learner profile is the embodiment of the IB mission statement in 10 attributes and aims to define the type of learner the IB aspires to develop. It is intended to provide a focus for reflection on what is most important in IB World Schools and the IB teaching profession, which is why it is at the heart of the programme.
Students at St Julian's will be able to choose between two IB programmes: the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related programme
The IB Diploma Programme which has been offered at St Julian's since 1986.
St Julian's is a Candidate School* for the IB Career-related programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that St Julian's believes is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org.
