The Health and Citizenship programme focuses on educating and preparing students for everyday situations, issues and choices that they will confront in their lives, now and in the future. We aim to equip them with the knowledge, skills and attributes to attain personal and social effectiveness, as well as manage risks and decision making in an ever changing world. The programme has 4 core themes - health and wellbeing, relationships, living in the wider world, and citizenship.
The programme is delivered by a specialist team in a collaborative way with each teacher delivering a specific unit and the students moving from one unit to the next in a carousel fashion. They have a lesson every week. We aim to create a safe environment in which all students have the opportunity to ask questions and have their feelings and opinions heard and valued. Respect of individuals varying cultures and values is a key feature of the programme.
Transition - starting the year and ending the programme ready for life after school
Prior to starting the carousel all Year 12 students complete a transition unit which focuses on strengths, wellbeing, study skills and organisation. Year 13 have a shorter, lighter touch unit at the start of the year, but more importantly have a unit called Being Independent to aid the transition into life after school.
Student Futures
At key points in the year we pause the carousel to focus on student futures activities to help the students prepare for life beyond school.
You can learn more about our specialist Student futures team on this page.
The curriculum we follow is informed by best international practice, student voice, parent voice, and the wealth of knowledge within our pastoral teams.
Here you will find further details about each unit including the learning objectives as well as links to further information we hope will empower you to have helpful conversations with your child about these topics.
We welcome parents to explore the lesson resources and meet the teachers during the workshop on Tuesday 6th January 2026, 8:30-9:30.
