Our nation’s future prosperity is tied to Indonesia’s growing economics. There are compelling reasons why it is advantageous to study a language in the latter years of school and ideally through to the end of Year 12. Studying languages gives students a skill set that is:
· Valuable in the workforce
· Develops pathways in the brain which gives students the ability to analyse, problem solve, increase memory retention and communication skills
· Enables students to study in a foreign country as many University courses now offer placement overseas
· Makes the experience of traveling in another country easier
· Promotes respect, tolerance and understanding other cultures
· Improve understanding of the vocabulary and grammar of English

Major Focus – Indonesian Speaking Communities
Description
This unit is designed to advance the student’s ability to listen, speak, read, view and write in Indonesian. Further cultural, historical and geographical information about Indonesia and its people is also studied. The course hopes to increase proficiency in using the language as an instrument of communication and prepare students for a more prolonged and in-depth study of the Indonesian language and literature.
Topics covered in this course include food and restaurants, bargaining at the market, health, housing and daily routine and places in town.
