Year 10 Structure

There are two pathways in Year 10. Each pathway leads to a range of post compulsory senior options. Some students have achieved results in Year 9 which make them eligible to begin their VCE studies early. Most students will continue with the standard Year 10 program. There is no one ‘right’ pathway for everyone, each student is an individual and should consider their own circumstances. Below is a summary of how each pathway is structured.

Options for the make-up of the Year 10 program

Group C: Choose FOUR (4) preferences from the following options.

• 10E_DESIGN TECHNOLOGIES - METAL (DTME10) 

• 10E_DESIGN TECHNOLOGIES - SYSTEMS ENGINEERING (DTSE10) 

• 10E_DESIGN TECHNOLOGIES - WOOD (DTWO10) 

• 10E_HISTORY - THE VIETNAM WAR (HISE10)

Reserve Preferences: Choose FOUR (4) reserve preferences 

An additional four (4) reserve preferences from the list in Group C need to be selected. These will be your reserve preferences. Make sure you choose your Reserve Preferences carefully because if any of your first four preferences are not available, or the combination of your first four preferences is not possible then reserve preferences will be allocated. It is rare that students will be able to receive their first 4 preferences.

Elective Subjects 

Please Note - If a student wants to study a Language, it must be selected as a whole year elective.

• Yearlong Electives 

• Languages: Italian or Indonesian 

Semester Electives: All other electives run for a single semester. 

• Group C 

Standard: Choose Two (2) other Preferences from Group C 

Options are the same as the Standard Year 10 (See available options list in the Standard Year 10 above)

• Reserve Preferences 

Choose FOUR (4) reserve preferences

An additional four (4) preferences from the list in Group C need to be selected. These will be your reserve preferences. Make sure you choose your Reserve Preferences carefully because if any of your first four preferences are not available, or the combination of your first four preferences is not possible then reserve preferences will be allocated. Please note: Not all VCE subjects are available for acceleration. Even if approval has been granted to undertake accelerated VCE, students should be aware that priority for places in subjects is given to Year 11 students and may be denied due to class size. 

Year 10 Languages

Please Note - If a student wants to study a Language, it must be selected as a whole year elective.
