Year 10 DESIGN TECHNOLOGIES: Metal (Code: DTME10)
You may be interested in Design Technologies: Metal if you enjoy:
· Working with your hands or with metal
· Problem solving
· Wish to pursue these subjects in the Senior Years: Product Design and Technology, Systems Engineering
Major Focus – Designing, Producing and Evaluating
This unit of work challenges the student’s design and metalworking skills.
Students are expected to produce a folio to help solve a design problem. Students construct the selected design using metal working tools, equipment and machinery including the use of CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing).
The majority of time in this unit is spent producing the product. Students will evaluate the overall success of their product and the efficiency of their own production activities.
Learning Activities
· Designing and Folio production
· Practical Sessions
· CAD/CAM
· Product Analysis
Assessment
· Folio
· Practical Outcome
You may be interested in Design Technologies: Systems Engineering if you enjoy:
· Working with your hands or with system and electronics
· Problem solving
· Wish to pursue these subjects in the Senior Years: Product Design and Technology, Systems Engineering
Major Focus – Designing, producing and evaluating
Students are introduced to basic electrical/electronic and engineering principles using 3D printing and CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing).
Students produce a design folio which includes research and production planning. Students use their design skills, CAD/CAM and electronic equipment and components to produce an electro/mechanical system.
Students will evaluate the overall success of their product and the efficiency of their own production activities.
Learning Activities
· Designing and Folio production
· Practical Sessions
· CAD/CAM, Laser Cutting
· 3D Printing
· Product Analysis
· Soldering
· Populating PCBs
Assessment
· Folio
· Practical Outcome
Students must supply their own safety glasses which must be worn at all times in the workshop. Safety and correct workshop practices are to be followed throughout this unit.
You may be interested in Design Technologies: Wood if you enjoy:
· Working with your hands or with timber
