Major Focus – Skill Development and the Health of Young Australians (Code: HLPE09)
Description
The practical element of this course will aim to develop student’s skill and game awareness through a Games Sense approach. A wide variety of sports will be undertaken including Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Lacrosse, Hockey and Gridiron.
The major practical focus will be on:
1. Skill development at an individual level and as required in a game situation.
2. Game strategy.
3. The fitness demands of each sport

Assessment Additional Information
LABORATORY REPORT: Analyse the technique of a Sport Skill and apply feedback and skill correction to improve performance
PRACTICAL ASSIGNMENT: Demonstrate knowledge of First Aid procedures and apply to real life scenarios
STRIKING AND FIELDING GAMES:
Demonstrating offensive, defensive and technical skills, and maintaining sportsmanship and teamwork values.
NET AND WALL GAMES: Demonstrating attacking, positional and technical skills, and maintaining sportsmanship and teamwork values.
The theory component will focus on topics such as ‘Basic First Aid’, Analysing Skills and Improving Skill Performance’, relevant fitness requirements and game strategies/tactics involved in a variety of sports. Students will explore Identity and Relationships and develop an understating of how to make informed decisions that promote good health. Students will investigate avenues to seek appropriate health advice to boost their health and wellbeing.

This unit is predominantly practically based. One period out of the five allocated periods each fortnight will be used to cover the theoretical component.
