Learning Area Leader: Ms Doran
Description
The Year 9 English course centers around three main strands of study: Language, Literature and Literacy. Students complete a variety of activities designed to increase their skills and effective communication in Standard English. Learning activities aim to engage students imaginatively, analytically and critically to expand their experiences and views of the world. Students study a range of texts such as novels and film, as well as texts to enhance their grammar and literacy skills. In this subject, students are also introduced to reading techniques to deeply understand the texts and their worlds.
They respond to these texts in a variety of oral and written modes, including group work centered around a novel of their choice. Students experiment with a variety of writing pieces that are constructed for various purposes and audiences. Students also analyse argument and examine persuasive language in media texts as well as perform a persuasive oral speech that explores current media issues.
