Mobile Simulation Lab (MSL) Training

Welcome to the MSL information and request page

The Maintenance and Operations Training Services team is now incorporating our new Mobile Simulation Lab (MSL) into its training. The MSL is a mobile training lab that houses two simulators, a Truck Simulator and a Front End Loader that can be brought to training locations around the state and expand the current learning environment.

With the MSL, the training team can teach the concepts of operating equipment and create a safe place to fail for students. With the ability to bring the simulators to different locations, students can learn in a more immersive environment, allowing them to develop the necessary skills to operate equipment safely and efficiently. The training simulators have scenario based learning that focus on topics such as, defensive driving, proper operating techniques, Pre and Post trips, and operating deicing controls.

The truck simulator can be configured to operate various vehicles such as basic front plow trucks, wing plow trucks, tow plows, tractor trailer, tanker, tractor with wide load, and many more. With the Front End Loader simulator, we have the ability to scale it to incorporate other pieces of equipment including, Motor Grader, Dozer, Backhoe, just to name a few.

To request the MSL at your training or event, please complete the MSL request form.

Snow plow simulator training

The L3 Snow Plow Simulator is designed to give students the opportunity to learn how to operate a wide range of snow fighting vehicles. Some of the learning objectives with the Snow Plow are:

All of the objectives are taught using scenario based training while the instructor uses prompts to engage critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Additionally, the learner has the opportunity to operate the vehicle through a wide range of locations and terrain

Equipment simulator training

The CAT Simulator is designed to give students the opportunity to operate heavy equipment in a safe environment. Our setup for the equipment simulator is only for the Front End Loader. However, we will be scaling the simulator to include equipment like the Motor Grader, Dozer, Backhoe and others in the near future. Some of the learning objectives for the equipment simulator are:

All of the objectives are taught using scenario based training while the instructor uses prompts to engage critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Additionally, the learner has the opportunity to operate the equipment through real world operations.

job fairs and events

The MSL is also available for job fairs or events to promote recruitment within CDOT. For job fairs or events, the MSL will arrive with a certified simulator trainer and will be fully functional. The MSL will be available for events throughout the state.

Because the MSL is a training tool, training sessions will take priority over hosting events. To schedule the MSL for a job fair or event, please complete the form at the top of this page.
