He also delivered two guest lectures on "Be Proud to be an Engineer" and "Pumps for Industrial Application" to the student members of all the association and clubs at SREC.
The Aero Modeling Club of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering college had organised a Glider competition for the students on March 01, 2019. 22 participants forming 11 teams had participated. The competition started by distribution of kit to the students which contained materials to make their own glider. A total time of 3 hours were allotted for the participants to complete their model. The flying competition was at 12:00 pm. The competition was conducted in two rounds: first round is maximum distance covered by the glider and second is maximum time that the glider can stay in the air. Each team was given two chances and best of the two was considered. After the competition, the winners were awarded with certificates and prize money by the Head of the Department, Dr. J. David Rathnaraj.
29 students in the Department of Aeronautical Engineering were benefited from the five-day Add-on Course on "A Hands-on Introduction to MATLAB and SIMULINK", organized by the Department of Aeronautical Engineering in association with the Aero Modeling Club from 07.08.2018 to 13.08.2018. The resource person was Mr. R. Sivakumar, AP/Aero
The Aero Modelling Club, Department of Aeronautical Engineering, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Coimbatore, in association with Rocketeers Research Institute, Bangalore had conducted a two-day Model Rocketry Workshop – “Rocket Launch Day 2k19” on 21st and 22nd February 2019. This event was the first of its kind in Tamil Nadu, where solid motor fuel model rockets are designed and flown by the students. Generally, model rocketry is done with water bottle rockets, which are useful in understanding the simple flight mechanics associated with a rocket. But to truly appreciate the complexities involved in powered rocket flight, a solid motor fuel powered model rocket is essential. Wethe5pilots – entrepreneurs from the Department of Aeronautical Engineering co-sponsored the event by providing the registration kit.
From all over Tamil Nadu, 212 teams, constituting a total of 112 students had registered for the workshop, all the way from Chennai to Namakkal and plenty of colleges in and around Coimbatore. Day 1 of the workshop began with an inauguration ceremony of the event, with welcome speeches, presidential address and felicitations from the Chief guests Mr. Divyanshu Poddar and Mr. Akash Ekka, Head of the Department, Dr. J. David Rathnaraj and faculty in-charge, K. Robin Johny. Day 2 involved the designing of rockets by the student’s teams themselves based on the learning given on the first day. A kit containing the raw materials for designing rockets was provided and the students must come up with various designs for a safe and stable launch. In the evening session, the designed rockets were flown. All the self-designed rockets flew very successfully. Lunch and refreshments were provided on both days for the participants and the instructors. All the faculty and student volunteers from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Aeronautical Engineering worked together as a team to successfully conduct the workshop. Feedback was collected from all the participants and certificates were distributed.
