The Department of Aeronautical Engineering conducted the inaugural function of Aeronautical Engineering Association, Aeronautical Society of India Students’ chapter, Students for Development of Space students’ chapter and Aero modelling Club on Monday (28-07-2014). Mr. Sai Ganesh, Fire Officer, Tamil Nadu Fire Service had given his consent to inaugurate and gave a lecture on “Fire Safety in Aviation Industries”.
Aero Modeling Club of Aeronautical Engineering, SREC, Coimbatore had conducted a one day water rocketry workshop on 06.08.2014. The objective of the event was to encourage the second year Aero students in the field of modelling of rockets by hands on experience. The Event started by the introductory speech by Dr. R. Sampathkumar, Head of the Department, Aeronautical Engineering about the workshop and history of water rockets. Mr. Godeeswaran of final year Aero, Secretary briefed about the basic principles behind modeling a rocket. Mr. Ramamoorthy of third year Aero, Student Co-ordinator and Mr. Lokesh of final year Aero, Treasurer then taught students the concepts behind achieving a stable flight of water rockets. Then the hands on training sessions for building a water rocket began. Mr. Tamilarasan of Final Year, Mr. Guruprasad of Pre Final Year and Mr. Shankar of pre final year, along with other AMC members guided the students to build their rockets hands on session. The event came to end by test flying the rockets that was built during the training sessions. The rockets achieved greater distances and altitude. The maximum distance achieved was 130 m and the minimum is 100 m.
The Aero Modeling Club proudly conducted a Demo workshop on “CANSAT” on 13th September 2014 for 2nd, 3rd & Final year Aeronautical students under the guidance of Mr. R. Siva Kumar, AP, Department of Aeronautical Engineering. This event was conducted by “ANTARIKSHA LABS, Bangalore” with Mr.Vasantha Kumar & Mr.Sidhant Dhall as Representatives. The event started at 10am in front of the staffs, Dr.R.Sampath Kumar, Head of Department, Department of Aeronautical Engineering, Prof.V.Selvan & all other respected Faculty members of Department of Aeronautical Engineering with their supports. A brief Introduction of Chief guests from ANTARIKSHA LABS were given by 2nd year students Dharshana & Ranjith as MC. Then the event was followed by the Representatives from ANTARIKSHA LABS that they explained about their concerns of conducting competition of CANSAT with world-wide students participating in the competition. They also explained about the step by step Designing procedure of CANSAT, i.e. a Prototype satellite with followed by Parachute. Also they explained about their internships & all other competitions that they conducting that with NASA & ESA. The150 students were supposed to ask their doubts on CANSAT concept. The students were well motivated by the Representatives of ANTARIKSHA LABS & they are all gained more knowledge on the CANSAT regarding & the competitions held by them.
The positive feedbacks were received from the students & finally the CANSAT Demo Workshop was ended up successfully with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr.P.Godeeswaran, Secretary of Aero Modeling Club, Department of Aeronautical Engineering.
The Aero Modeling Club proudly organised a one day workshop on “RUBBER POWERED ORNITHOPTER” on 29th January 2015 for 2nd & 3rd year Aeronautical students conducted by Mr. C. Dinesh Kumar (CEO of Avian Aerospace, Chennai). There were 46 members, grouped as 23 teams participated in this event. The event started at 10am by the Tamil prayer song & the welcome address was given by Dr. R. Sampath Kumar, Head of Department, Department of Aeronautical Engineering. Then the theoretical session was well explained by Mr. C. Dinesh Kumar (CEO of Avian Aerospace, Chennai) with suitable examples & videos. There was much well interaction between Mr. C. Dinesh Kumar & students. The students were revealed to ask many doubts. The afternoon session was a fabrication session started at 2pm with some theoretical calculations. Ornithopter Model Fabrication Procedure was explained to students by a paper presentation with the guidelines provided by Mr.C.Dinesh Kumar.
Every participants performed well in the hands-on training of Ornithopter model in a much disciplined manner. Doubts were cleared by the Mr.R.Rangaraj (faculty), Mr.P.Sivakumar (faculty) & AMC volunteers. The fabrication process ended by 5.30pm & the participants launched their Rubber-Powered Ornithopter model. Mistakes in the models were rectified on the spot.
Participants got a well training session & they gained more knowledge on the Rubber-Powered Ornithopter. The positive feedbacks were received from the participants. Finally the vote of thanks was given by Mr. P. Godeeswaran, Secretary of AMC. Thus the workshop was ended successfully.
