2017 - 2018

The Department of Aeronautical Engineering inauguration ceremony for the 2017-2018 academic year was held on 22.08.2017. The associations and clubs in the Department, namely AMC, SEDS, AeSI and AEA were inaugurated by Shri T.K.Sundaramurthy, Former Scientist ISRO, NAL Tech, Bangalore. He also delivered a guesl lecture on the topic “Opportunities for Aeronautical Engineers; Past – Present – Future”. Prizes were distributed to the academically excelling students in each year and the Smart India Hackathon team.

The Aero modelling Club of Department of Aeronautical Engineering have organised a two day workshop on “Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics using OpenFOAM” on 8 and 9 September, 2017. 28 students from various institution had participated. The students were taught the basics of CFD and introduced to the software OpenFOAM. The session started with a brief history of development of CFD by Dr. J. David Rathnaraj, Prof. and Head, Aeronautical Engineering, followed by introduction to CFD and hands on sessions by Mr. Balamurugan P, AP/ Mech, Mr Dinesh AP/Mech and Mr. R. Sivakumar, AP/Aero. The students also solved few sample problems to acquire basic knowledge in CFD through OpenFOAM. The event received a positive feedback from students.
