2013 - 2014

Aero Modeling Club of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Coimbatore had conducted a one day water rocketry workshop on 26.09.2013. The objective of the event was to encourage the students in the field of modelling water rockets with hands on experience. It was a well organised event by the Faculty in charge, Mr. R. Sivakumar.

The event was split up into three phases. First phase set off with the introductory note by Head of the Aeronautical Department Dr. R. Sampath Kumar and Secretary of Aero Modeling Club Poorvika E. and followed by a theory session about “Basic Principles and Aerodynamics of Water Rocket” by the final year Aeronautical students.

In the next phase, students were taught and guided to prepare their own models in which the students implemented their ideas and crafted the models on their own.

The last phase was the ‘Launching of Models’. This phase set off with the first launch of a model by Prof & Head Dr. S. Rangaswamy. Students tried out their models by launching them using three types of launchers, which were made by the students of Aero Modeling Club, which include:

• Vertical launcher

• Horizontal Launcher

• Hand launcher

The models were scrutinized on various criteria like Range and Stability. The event was witnessed by all Faculties and Students, who were entertained and enthralled. For the students who designed and saw their rockets fly, made them more involved in this Aero Modelling field.

A Workshop for the Aeronautical Engineering Students on "Design and Fabrication Radio Controlled Model Aircraft" was organized by the Aero Modelling Club in association with Avian Aerospace, Chennai on 29.01.2014. Mr. C. Dinesh, CEO, Avian Aerospace, Chennai was the resource person for the workshop. Around 35 participants attended the workshop and gained valuable exposure to designing and fabricating RC planes.

As it has been for all the years, the Aero Modelling Club had organized the Air Show during the National Level Technical Symposium TREFRAKETEN. RC planes and IC engine planes took to the skies in this edition.

A one day Workshop for the third year Aeronautical Engineering Students on making balsa wood gliders was organized by the Aero Modelling Club on 18.09.2013. The Resource person for this workshop was Mr. Ravi, NCC Trainer, Air Wing. Over 55 Students participated in this workshop to gain valuable know-how of gliders.
