Introducing May's Senior: Connor Cardinal!
Having been raised in Mill Valley, California, Connor has an affinity for the outdoors. He is an Outdoor Adventure Leadership Major and holds the position of Trip Coordinator here at the Outdoor Program!
His favorite outdoor activities range from rock and ice climbing, highlining, backpacking and mountaineering, and whitewater kayaking.
Connor was hired at the OP in the winter of 2020.
"I got hired during the COVID era. I joined because I went on an OP trip where we went rock climbing at Emigrant lake. I had a blast."
As for his favorite memory at the OP...
"Ahhhh my favorite memory. Hmmmm. I think it would be when we went camping in the Umpqua and we realized we forgot our pots and pans. We learned that with a little creativity, you can make almost anything in a Dutch oven! ;)"
A life skill that he is taking away from his time at the OP is being organized.
His plans after graduation include: "doing a big backpacking trip with my friends through much of Northern California. After that, I’m moving to Bend to pursue a job as a rafting and rock climbing guide."
Connor has been an inspirational force at the OP for over 3 years with his enthusiasm, knack for problem solving, and his adventurous and inclusive attitude.
He is inspired by "My two roommates, Nate and Mike. They are constantly getting after it, and they are always pushing me to get out there and adventure with them. Mike recently got me addicted to ice climbing and I’m pretty sure I’m going bike packing with Nate in a couple weeks on a single speed bike he told me to buy (this should be interesting). Some of my favorite moments in life are when I get to go climbing with them."
