Those of us at the Outdoor Program want to highlight the awesome seniors who will fly the coop come graduation. Tune into the senior spotlight page every month until June to meet our seniors!
Introducing March's Senior: Adam Polin-Sproat!
Originally from Sunnyvale, California, Adam is one of our gear managers here at the OP. He is working towards his Bachelor of Fine Arts as a Master Electrician with a concentration in Theatrical Lighting Technology.
His favorite outdoor activities include dirtbike riding, rock climbing, and hiking.
Adam was hired at the OP in January of 2022:
"I joined the OP because I wanted to work around a bunch of super cool outdoor people and grow my knowledge as an outdoor person."
He's made a lot of memories...
"My favorite memory from the OP is doing a multi-pitch climb with Willie and Peter in the gym. Willie simul-belayed us up the wall and the three of us all hung from one anchor at the same time. It was super funny but also really informative. Fall ‘22 guide school was also an amazing time and gave me a love for whitewater."
And learned a few life skills...
"A life skill I will take away from my time at the OP is general leadership. I feel like I’ve learned a ton in how to work with a group as a leader and how to manage multiple problems all at once. Understanding how to teach and lead different people with different skill levels in something at the same time is a skill I have had to quickly develop, and the OP has been a great place to learn."
As for after graduation...
"Right now I have no solid plans. I’d like to stay in Ashland and continue doing theatre at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, but that is a pretty lofty goal. In general, I would like to continue doing theatre in any capacity, and will most likely find a masters program somewhere to improve my technical skills."
Adam has inspired us all with his technical know-how, stoke for adventure, and warm, welcoming nature.
Someone who inspires him is...
"my lighting professor mikE Stanfill (yes that capitalization is on purpose). He is an incredibly hard working person who takes time to teach people on an individual level that resonates with them. He is very laid back and allows students to learn at their own pace, but is happy to step in a give them the support they need when they ask. He had also worked very heavily in the career I am interested in, and I hope to become the beacon of hope and joy that mikE brings to any department."
