She's made a lot of memories...
"The summer 2022 before starting school, Willie took us to the impressive spires of Old Man & Old Woman in the North Umpqua. I started out sitting below, with Braden and Rocky in the sun watching Mat Money and Willie lead the first pitch on Old Man. We sat in the dirt and sap admiring the spire and the sounds of clanking carabiners. The start of the first pitch was with Caden, I sat with them talking about life, feeling the breeze come up the canyon, and feeling grounded. After climbing the first pitch, I reached Jeff on the second belay ledge. We stood in the sun laughing at our own jokes and feeling the rock against our back. Upon reaching the top of the spire, Willie greeted each of us with a smile and stoke. We sat on top of the spire looking out at the Umpqua river and drifting rafters below. To "top off the day" even further we did a tyrolean traverse between the spires. That day will hold a special memory in my heart for a long time. It was great climbing with even greater people.
Other good chuckles I've had are the classic quinoa tragedies on the river."
And learned a life skill or two.
"There are SO many life skills I will take with me in my pocket after the OP. However, if I have to take just one, it would be communicating, teaching, and learning from and with people on so many levels.
P.S. Knot tying skills are also already coming in handy."
"My plans are to move up the Bend and ideally work in material(waste) management. My dream job would include working for a nonprofit thats focuses on social justice outreach and engagement in the zero waste movement."
Sarah has inspired all of us with her cheerful spirit, motivating work ethic, and knack for lighting up any room she walks into.
People she's inspired by are:
"My roommates, two strong women I look up to everyday. Chella and Zhu remind me to let loose and have more fun, support me when needed, and they truly have inspired me to be myself everyday for the past two years <3"
