Route Setting Clinic!

SOU is privileged to host a professional climbing gym route setter and SOU alumni, Bennett Kornbrath, for the annual Route Setting Clinic. A group of SOU student climbers spent three full days in the Climbing Center discussing climbing theory and training their bodies and minds to set like a pro. Come check out the SOU Climbing Center in the Student Recreation Center and try climbing the student creations!

Wonders of Oregon

On November 12th the Wonders of Oregon Trip set out to explore Eastern Oregon! We started out exploring the Natural Bridge near Prospect, Oregon. Then we headed for Crater Lake to explore the sights and build snowpeople! On day two we woke up in Tumalo State Park Campground in Bend, and headed for Smith Rock after a quick stop at Cline Falls. While visiting Smith Rock we hiked to Monkey Face and ate lunch overlooking beautiful grassy fields and blue sky's. Our next stop was onto Painted Hills to watch the sunset with warm hot chocolate in hand. Our final day concluded with exploring below ground at Boyd Cave and venturing back to Ashland. See more about the pictures below!

Yoga Rocks

We had a lovely day at Lithia park! We walked around the beautiful park before having a serene yoga session from Cedar. We found fun and unique rocks to paint! It was such a fun way to spend our Saturday and a great way to recharge before school on Monday. My favorite part is when Cedar had everyone individually teach a yoga pose! I had never done that before and it was an awesome experience. Also, we stopped by Matcha to get some Boba before we went home! Thank you to everyone who could join us and to the staff for making it possible!

Mountain Lakes Backpacking

The trip went AMAZING!! We hiked 12 miles both days and saw the beautiful lakes in the Mountain Lakes Wilderness. It wasn't easy, but we had a great time pushing through and created friendships that would last a lifetime!! Our entire group has stayed in contact and has done dinners, goneclimbing, and more! I am so thankful for everyone who went on the trip and for the staff that made it possible!! See more pictures below!

Grizzly Peak Day Hike

This Outdoor Program trip to Grizzly Peak was cold, wet, foggy, and fun! We drove to the trailhead on Sunday morning and enjoyed the hard uphill at the start of the hike before it started to drizzle. We walked the Grizzly Peak Trail counter-clockwise among the clouds and the mist. When we arrived at our lunch spot, the clouds were still covering the view of Ashland and the Rogue Valley, so we ducked down from the bluff to where a fallen tree was leaning on a protruding rock. There, we set up a tarp and ate pasta salad, cheese, crackers, meats, and homemade cookies until our fingers were frozen. On the walk back to the van, the rain got heavier and were grateful to be squished together and warmed once back in the van. Music in the van was bumpin' and we sang all the way down the mountain until we parked.
