"Given the interdisciplinary nature of my education, this Capstone project was an opportunity for me to reflect on what I have learned from both the sciences and humanities. Emphasizing my passions, I have crafted a portfolio with work that spans across the fields of creative writing and biology, with the hope of offering a new perspective and voice at this intersection. The portfolio contains a poster presentation of my site-directed mutagenesis project in Dr. Sofia Origanti’s lab and a collection of poems that engage scientific inquiry with what I have learned as a creative writing student. These poems were a chance for me to write about and think through various aspects of my identity, from being a Muslim immigrant to working as an undergraduate research scientist for the first time. Lastly, I include a reflection of my experience drawing connections between science and creative writing. Completing my time at Saint Louis University with a Capstone that serves as a culmination of all that I have learned from my major and minors truly represents what I had hoped to achieve academically in college. I would like to thank my faculty mentors, Professor Ted Mathys and Dr. Sofia Origanti, as well as the Honors Program for their support of my project."
