"I performed a survey study to answer the research question: "How do the coming out experiences of LGBTQ+ college students impact their political ideology and political activity?" Coming out experiences are a formative stage of LGBTQ+ identity that have not been previously studied in Political Science, so I expanded the literature by being the first survey study to connect coming out experiences and political identity in a survey. While I did not find support for three of my four hypotheses, I did find that the outness of an LGBTQ+ college student impacted their political ideology. One unexpected result from the study was that having an LGBTQ+ friend impacted both political ideology and political activity."
