Host Immune Response to Group B Streptococcus

"Our lab studies, Group B Streptococcus (GBS), a bacteria which causes meningitis and sepsis in newborn babies. Our goal is to characterize infection by GBS, and to specifically target infection by GBS with antibiotics. My project focuses on the immune response in GBS infection. We hypothesize that GBS activates the complement and the sepsis pathway. Our research shows the specific cytokines which are activated in the complement pathway during GBS infection."
