"Through the synthesis of recent studies, evidence-based practices, and existing materials, my Capstone work broadened my understanding of the physical abilities (through a physical therapy lens) required by older adults to help decrease falls. The ultimate purpose was to create a falls prevention pamphlet to be available for distribution at the HRC Physical Therapy Clinic in an effort to increase fall prevention education. I first completed a write-up of my research findings. Then, with the consideration of those findings, the knowledge of therapeutic exercise I have thus far, and the guidance of my mentor, Jill Fitzgerald, I created an exercise program to target the specific areas of strength, balance, flexibility, and aerobic endurance proven to help reduce falls in older adults. The pamphlet includes the exercise program, a home safety checklist, and some basic information about falls prevention."
