"My capstone examines prevalence rates of eating disorders among racial and ethnic groups in the United States. While the stereotype persists that eating disorders primarily occur among white females, research indicates that all racial groups are susceptible to developing eating disorders. It is important for clinicians to be aware of the risk across all racial and ethnic groups so that bias does not prevent certain groups from being diagnosed. As the Urban Poverty Studies component, I also examine how the social determinants of health contribute to high prevalence rates of eating disorders."
