Thoughts

The anime that, well, truly introduced me to the world of anime - the gate opener. TTGL is, in a single word, fun. It's epic too, but fun captures its spirit far better - I have rarely been so amused and entertained by the sheer ridiculousness the anime spews every single episode, and damned if Kamina's quotes don't stick in your memory forever.

However, the anime suffers from two major drawbacks. Firstly, it is not a very rewatchable anime - the magic is somewhat lost on subsequent watches, due to the constant piling of epicness, making earlier episodes possibly seem like a drag. But more importantly, it turns from a parody of mecha series - which it does extremely well - into a reconstruction of them, which it...doesn't do so well. Or, in simpler terms - it eventually starts taking itself seriously, and when it does, that's when other anime can do much better.
