HAGGLE (CHA) (Tom Caputo Creation)
If you chose the "Haggle" skill, it is a skill created to allow characters to try and lower prices when buying, or counteract another from haggling with them. Prices can come down or on rare occasions, the shopkeeper may be greatly insulted and demand more for the goods. You may only Haggle once per item. Some brave Hagglers attempt to lump items all together for the check.
Rules of Thumb for Selling/Buying:
- When selling used goods, the price is usually 30% of the price listed when it was new. Items in shops are usually new and therefore are at full price.
- Craftmanship can affect prices.
- Availability can affect prices.
- Always keep tabs of who sells and buys at the best prices.
- Choose your haggling wisely... no one haggles the price of eggs.
In order to use your Haggle, you must do a skill check against a DC of the merchant's Charisma score + their Haggle if they have it.
If both seller and buyer have Haggle:
If the merchant you are buying or selling with has the Haggle skill as well, they roll also. The character who rolls over their skill with the biggest differential wins the Haggle and uses their score to alter the price of the goods (or to prevent the price from rising).
If only one has Haggle
Do a skill check and depending on your roll, you may get a discount, make a permanent connection, or anger the merchant.
Successful roll:
Each 2 points over your check equals a 5% discount (up to 30%).
Rolling a 20 and being 10 or more over the DC with your modifiers, means you made a permanent connection (as long as you do not blow another Haggle roll).
A permanent connection means you have earned a permanent 10% discount (or tip if you are selling).
You may attempt to Haggle with them again at a later time. If you roll another 20, you will earn another permanent 10% (maximum of 30%) to your values. But if you fail a check, you will lose the permanent discount and may have to rebuild your connection with said merchant. If you roll a 1 and it is 5 (add your modifiers) or more under the DC, you will permanently lose this connection and they will not deal with you any more.
Unsuccessful roll:
For each 3 points below check add 5% penalty (no maximum). A roll of 1 automatically means an angry shopkeeper who refuses to work with character for at least 1 day per point below the DC (include your modifiers). If the Haggler tries the merchant again and rolls a consecutive 1, they will lose the merchant's services permanently.
