One of the founding kingdoms of man, Skor began with the uniting of the roaming bands of men against a common foe, the Black Orcs. With the essential alliances of dwarves, gnomes, and elves, they pushed back the hordes of orcs. Thus began the age of civilized man and its offshoots, including the Town of Madroo.
Man's Beginnings
Warriors have risen to positions of glory by battle prowess and strategy. Feudalism spreads itself throughout the now semi-civilized areas. The most well-known kingdowm known to man is that of King Corrin Skor and his vassals that inhabit the surround lands of his now growing city. King Skor's rise to rule stems from his banding the once roaming bands of humans into a common cause, the fight for existence against hordes of black orcs. Calling upon the dwarves and gnomes to the north to settle their differences in face of this common enemy, Corrin was also, it is rumored, able to secure the aid of the elusive elves of the wood. This ability to unite the races under one cause has united the tribal leaders of man and in return they have given their allegiances to King Skor and his leadership.
Despite this uniting, there is still much wild in the known areas to man. Thieves and other rogues inhabit every corner and facet of society. In an attempt to rid the human lands of these dregs, law and order in the City of Skorport have severe punishments to the actions that often disease the hearts of such men. Fearing their lives, many have fled to lands distant to carve out their own niches in the world. Some say the lakeside town of Lakeshore is a den of thieves and other vagabonds. Still, in the shadows of night in the outskirts of any small town, one may catch out of the corner of their eye a fleeting figure assessing his next prize.
Holy men have risen in the time of need when men were on the brink of annihilation. The Powers of Raden answered the many prayers of those in need and their reward is the service of those who called out for aid. Patron of Skorport, Flarr the Silverdrayke, God of Justice and Revenge, watches over the King himself. Styrden, God of Strength, Kahril, God of Life, and even Brazen, the God of Death, have had their prayers sounding out more frequently along with dozens of other Powers who have descended upon the mortals of Raden looking for worshippers. Prophets run through the known world looking for followers to further the goals of their gods or goddesses.
With the coming of the Powers, magic has sprung to life as well. Albeit, often considered more myth than reality, more and more claims of the supernatural have been rumored in taverns and trading posts. Men and women claiming to be able to harness energies for manipulation are becoming more and more frequent. Rumors of the King's interest in such matters has kept many to hold their tongues if they desire to remain hassle free.
With the defeat of the Black Orcs, the races of man, dwarves, gnomes, and elves, have drastically been altered. The once secluded gnomes have taken more of a liking to the nature of man and their inquisitive ways. There is claim that the gnomes have been key in the development of many structural aspects to man's architecture and technological advances. Gnomes can be seen frequently.
The dwarves gave man's armor and weapon-making skills a boost with the introduction to new types of metallurgy and smithing skills. However, the aggressive nature of the dwarves and distrust in the once-nomadic man has caused the majority to retreat back to their halls in the Spike Mountains to the north.
Elves, once the threat was eliminated, have once again disappeared into the woodlands were it not for the few and far between matings with humans, their existence would once again slip into legend and tavern tales.
With a small piece of the vast world of Raden slowly being developed and much more left to the unknown, now is the time for adventurers and heros to carve out their own destinies. Creatures, both benign and malign, have been reported on the outskirts of man. The unknown calls upon the adventure in everyone, but only those brave enough can endure.
King Skor oversees and protects several towns and nearby lands which are listed below and are governed by old tribal leaders who swear allegiance to Corrin Skor.
