Our project has shifted focus towards the island of Poveglia which is an abandoned Minor Lagoon Island in the southern part of the lagoon near Lido. An aerial image of the island is below.
The island was used during plague times for the more severe cases and as such, the island has earned the reputation of being the most haunted island in all of Italy. There are many books and movies about ghost hunting on the island and part of our research has been to sort out the fact from fiction. We've been working with Giovanni Distefano on the booklet production but also we've been working with Lorenzo Bottazzo, an engineer from Insula, who has provided us with a physical description of Poveglia as it is today. We've translated this description and included it as the introduction to our booklet. As for the rest of the text in the booklet, we'll be working with Sig. Distefano to produce a detailed and accurate description of the island's history from the 5th century until today.
