Since our project focuses on the islands of Venice, it is important that we use the GIS provided to us by the Venice Project Center so that our work is consistent with the work of past projects. I was using the Inner City and Lagoon layers to create a rough idea of what info-graphics I could produce to help visualize the difference between the different types of islands in the Lagoon and I noticed some inconsistencies between the layers and the maps I had been looking at before. The most noticeable one is in the northern section of the lagoon near the islands of Burano, Mazzorbo, and Torcello.
The map on the left is the GIS layer we received from the VPC and the map on the right is from Google Maps. There are several islands which appear in one map but not the other, as show with the red circles on the images. As we start to categorize the islands of the lagoon into a single database it will be important to find all of these inconsistencies and determine the true locate of all islands.
