Welcome to the 2015 Venice Isles' team website and blog! Throughout the course of the next few weeks we will be documenting our progress here as we prepare to go to Venice in October to complete our Interactive Qualifying Project, or IQP. To briefly introduce ourselves, we are: Georges Gauthier, David McDonald, Jenna O'Connell, and Nick Panzarino, and we are all juniors studying at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Our project, titled "The Venice Archipelago" is the first project at the Venice Project Center that is dedicated fully to the islands of Venice. There are approximately 170 islands in the Venice lagoon and our team has the daunting but meaningful task of documenting all of them. Not much information is available about this island in English and our research will fill this gap for anyone interesting in learning more about Venice.
The Venice Project center has been collecting data about Venice for nearly thirty years. We will be taking this data as well as new data we collect this year and compiling the information on an island by island basis. We will be adding this new data to the Venipedia with one page for each island in the archipelago. Our end result will be two main deliverables: and interactive Isolario and a published booklet about a Major Lagoon Island. The Isolario will allow users to explore the islands of Venice and learn more about them through links to the Venipedia pages we will create about those islands. The booklet will be a physical representation of the information from the Venipedia that will eventually be sold at newsstands in Venice to serve as a reference guide for tourists and Venetians alike.
While this presents our team with a large amount of work, we are looking forward to the challenge and hope that our research will be meaningful to future students looking to learn about Venice.
