As part of our project's third objective - to publish comprehensive information on all the islands of Venice - we are working on creating three booklets that will be part of a series on every island in the Venetian lagoon. Our team is working with Giovanni Distefano of Supernova Publishing to create these. Sig. Distefano publishes a new book on Venice every other week and is very respected within the city as well as in Italy. One of his best selling booklets is called How was Venice Built? which is what we are using as the inspiration and template for our three booklets.
The book on the left is Sig. Diatefano's and the book on the right is the cover and first page of our current draft.
Each of our three booklets will be on different categories of islands: for the Minor Lagoon Islands we will be writing about Lazzaretto Nuovo since it was once abandoned but today is a fully functional archaeological museum. The goal is that this booklet will help show what the abandoned islands could become. For the Major Lagoon Islands we will be writing about Mazzorbo since it is one of the less famous major islands and information on it is very scattered. Finally, we will be creating a booklet on San Marco, the island in the inner city where the Piazza San Marco is, to start a series of booklets on each of the 126 inner city islands.
