Jan 20 2023 - just thinking out loud - in the USA - there needs to be enough modern fire engines such that when ALL trained firefighters are on duty, there is an available engine that they can staff - basically there needs to be 2 or 3 spares for every frontline unit - also - there are 5,000 military helicopters operated by the US military and 9,300 commercial helos in the USA - if every one of these helos can be converted to a medevac helo - the US would have close to 16,000 or more medevac helos in a disaster (we can add 900 dedicated ems helos + maybe 900 police helos )- each 'disaster helo' would need a cot and a medical kit and oxygen and burn packs and maybe a SAED and IVs - just rudimentary medical gear - maybe with decon gear also - every doctor and nurse and paramedic should associate themselves with a local helo and prepare - also - every EMT in the USA should have a disaster bag - rudimentary medical supplies plus a tent / sleeping bag + 14 days food and water and sanitary supplies
