Maryland
Overview of Maryland Public Safety services
public police service is provided by village or town police, city police, county police, county sheriff - the State Police patrol major highways and rural areas
fire service started with volunteer stations throughout the state - this has morphed into fully paid county FDs in some areas - the more rural areas still retain their volunteer stations (sometimes augmented by paid staff provided by the county)
911 service is typically provided by countywide 911 centers - some countys have stand alone countywide fire/ems dispatch centers
ambulance service is mostly provided via fire departments
Maryland State Police operate multiple helicopters that provide EMS, rescue, police, and fire service
.The Crowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore serves as the primary trauma center for most of the state - using State Police helos for transport
multiple federal government sites across the state provide their own safety services - but they are closely integrated with local fire departments often responding to incidents at off-base / off-site / off-campus locations
Maryland State Police serve the Univeristy of Maryland at College Park
Maryland State Forestry has approx 65 fire trained staff - they might have a dozen dozers and heavy engines plus multiple small brush trucks based usually at state forests or state parks
State Parks have rangers maybe - state environmental laws are enforced by dnr police - ish - see wikipedia - they probably know what the deal is - unknown if the State Parks have any fire trucks or rescue trucks or emergency boats
There is a newish statewide 700 mhz trunked radio system that is expanding statewide
