How does Tracfone Prepaid Wireless Work?

Simply buy your Tracfone and activate it. It is very easy to activate your phone.

Tracfone Activation

You will have to punch in a series of numbers and then the phone will say ok. If you don't copy the number in right you can always redo it. It is quite simple. Have patience it is pretty easy.

After a few minutes your phone to become active. I have activated a lot of phones and usually it takes from a couple minutes to an hour to become active.

Now you will have 20 minutes on your Tracfone if you activated online or 10 minutes if you activated by phone.

Testing your Tracfone

Before installing Tracfone card, make certain the phone works by calling a friend. Do not use up all of your minutes. Check to see if your phone gets service where you want to use it. A friend of mine could only get her phone to work if she was out on her front porch, not handy if trying to call while you are at home.

If the phone gets reception where you need it to now you can install a minutes card.

With the newer phones you can install minutes three different ways.

Add from your Phone From your Tracfone menu you will see "Add Airtime." Click you will be asked for an "Airtime PIN." Add your PIN number (your PIN is the 15 digit number on your Tracfone Card or receipt) you can put in a 5 digit Bonus Code. Check out my other articles for information on Bonus Codes.

From online at TracFone.com You can go online to the website add your minutes. This is easy and my preferred way to adding minutes.

Call Tracfone from a separate phone Toll free Tracfone call at

1-800-867-7183 from a different phone. Calling Tracfone on your prepaid Tracfone will not work to add minutes. When you call you will navigate a phone menu and then you will have to put in your ESN (phone serial number). Then you will be given a series of numbers to type into your phone. Take your time if you make a mistake don't worry you can easily reenter the number.

How to buy a Tracfone

You can go online to Tracfone.com or you can call Tracfone at

1-800-867-7183 or you can go to your local Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Safeway store. At the Tracfone website you will have the largest selection of phones. Wal-Mart, Circuit City, or your local store will usually only have one or two models. The TracFone.com website always has the largest selection and usually the best prices on phones.

Tracfone DMFL

The latest plan from Tracfone is called Unlimited Double Minutes for Life (DMFL). DMFL will double the minutes of any phone card you add to your phone. The Moto W376, W370, Lg 225 and some of the other new phones come with DMFL. To add TracFone DMFL to your current phone will usually cost more than to purchase a new phone with DMFL included.
