I was a new parent and teacher with SFUSD from the years of 2007 to 2013. My daughter and I started our first day as teacher and Kindergarden together.
She started at a low income school because that was the only school we could get in when I first was offered the job of teaching (we had 3 days to enroll her). I tell you this story, to set the tone of how I not only was a teacher in a low income area of a large urban area but so you know that I was a parent as well.
My daughter and I have now moved on 7 years later, I teach in Marin county, she is in a different school district but not before accomplishing the below list because I was completely invested mind, body and soul:
*Turn around Cleveland Elem. from Greening School with admin. to fundraising for school and classroom
*Became a Temporary Special Education Teacher at request of school community to work with hardest students
*At request of union became Union Building Rep., CTA Campaign Public Spokesperson to fight for funding for Prop. 30 (San Francisco Public Speaker)
*Became Teacher Leader for Schoolwide Projects (especially when my daughter was a student at my school) including but not limited to: School Carnival, Earth Day, Talent Show, Science Nights, School Wide Rallies for Education-protesting lay offs of staff and teachers, PTA member.
Currently, I am focusing on Next Generation Science Standards and implementing New Curriculum at my site by using Pre and Post Surveys to assess teacher's needs. Then looking to community and the latest curriculum design to implement shifts in learning.
When problem solving on how to implement NGSS, as Science Team Leader, using Design Systems and Reflective practice when looking a programmatic implementation.
