Meet at UW Language Learning Center to talk with Michele Aoki about curriculum development

Theme: World Language Programs through an Equity Lens

One of our biggest equity challenges right now is that we have no district Spanish textbook adoption so it’s up to each school/teacher to come up with their curriculum (using our Example Units and WL Course Outcomes). While some schools, especially the two new middle schools that opened, got capital budget to purchase new curriculum (Avancemos) with a waiver process, most of our schools are struggling with leftover copies of Ven Conmigo and anything else they can find.

I will be at the UW Language Learning Center (Denny Hall 159) 3:00 on March 21 for anyone who would like to meet me there to talk about “fleshing out” our curriculum resources for Spanish until an official adoption process can take place. (Other languages are welcome to attend too and work on your resources.) I have some additional World Language budget to allocate for extra hours this summer to teachers who would like to be involved in this type of professional development. (Developing curriculum in a collaborative way incorporating high-leverage practices is great PD in my book.)

If you’re planning to come, please email me. If you need clock hours, I can expand the time from 3:00-6:00 pm.
