*If you have not previously attended Schoology training, this would constitute the district supported training (and Tech Services would cover your extra hours). If you did attend Schoology training last fall, then the World Languages budget would cover your extra hours for this additional training tailored to World Language teachers.

One of the recommendations from the World Languages Needs Assessment was 1.c. Adopt Up-to-Date Curriculum: Provide current curriculum and access to technology. We'll meet together first for a quick review of the curriculum/textbook adoption process and to consider what concrete options we have now for different languages. Then we'll break out by language:

This will be an overview workshop of the global themes and curriculum resources in Santillana's Level 4 AP curriculum, which is being piloted next year at Chief Sealth International High School for the 9th grade Dual Language Immersion Continuation course. You do not need to be an AP Spanish teacher to benefit from this workshop.

We will have updates on curriculum opportunities for different languages and take a closer look at the challenges and opportunities for World Language teachers and programs as the district implements 2 credits of a world language as a high school graduation requirement for the class of 2021.

June 24-25, 2016 TELL Collab in Austin, TX
The TELL Collab will bring together world language educators to explore, model, and share effective language learning practices identified by the TELL Framework. The two-day professional learning experience will include a mixture of collaborative sessions, presentations and resource sharing for both teachers and administrators. Teachers will receive help identifying their own professional learning goals. They will also learn strategies for meeting their goals. Workshop open to any and all K-12 World Language Teachers
Outcomes: Teachers are familiarized with the eight criteria in the new Washington Teacher Evaluation process. Ideas, activities, and projects will be presented for each of the eight criteria. Critical attributes for each of the criteria will be discussed, collection of evidence and artifacts will be demonstrated, and examples of how to move from a 3 (proficient) to a 4 (distinguished) will be provided. Timeframe (when would you work on this): by June 15, 2016
Deliverables: 36 worksheets for 36 Episodes of "Kuaile Hanyu" to check for understanding, as lesson plans ready for use for teacher or sub plan or used as online material in the future
Target levels of Chinese: 2nd grade-12th grade (level 1-level 5 students)

Project #2016-02: AP Backward Design at Chief Sealth
Teachers: Pedro Lopez-Chaves and Marlene Mersch from Chief Sealth Intl School
Timeframe: June - August 2016
Estimated Hours: 4-6 hours each. (Allow up to 10 hours each.)
Description: Backward plan using the information from the AP curriculum and incorporating with the IB materials used at Chief Sealth as well as research other topics to align the AP course, immersion program with the flow into the IB courses.
Deliverable: Curriculum Map with AP and IB alignment

Project #2016-06: Chinese Project-Based Learning and Textbooks

Estimated hours: 8 hours per person
Timeframe (when would you work on this): July 18, 2016 and through August
Deliverables: Talk about PBL teaching and Textbook adoption. For PBL, we will brainstorm some project ideas for various levels and read a couple of reading articles together. For textbook adoption, we will at least identify 2 or 3 sets of textbooks if we want to adopt one. Deliverable will be a report with PBL ideas and a brief report on reviews of textbooks using the Textbook Adoption criteria.
