Curriculum Adoption

The Seattle School District is in a curriculum adoption cycle for Spanish. For other languages:

    • Japanese: We submitted a recommendation to the district Curriculum Committee to "upgrade" the adoption of Adventures in Japanese to the newest edition.
  • French: French had a new adoption (Bon Voyage) in 2010. There is not an upgraded edition of that textbook available at this time.
    • Chinese: Chinese does not have a current textbook adoption and since it impacts fewer than 1000 students in the district at this time, it is possible to recommend an adoption without going through the formal adoption process.

Curriculum Adoption Criteria

All curriculum and textbook materials considered for adoption should be evaluated using the Criteria (see files below).

The Center for Open Educational Resources & Language Learning (COERLL) is one of 16 National Foreign Language Resource Centers (LRC's) funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The overall mission of these federally-funded centers is to improve the teaching and learning of foreign languages by producing resources (materials and best practices) that can be profitably employed in a variety of settings.
