Nqutu (Nquthu)

Nquthu is a town in Umzinyathi District Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.

Village 24 km west-south-west of Barklieside and 53 km east of Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal. Of Zulu origin, the name is derived from ingqutu, ‘flat-topped vessel’, descriptive of a nearby hill from which the village takes its name.

Two teachers were killed during a storm in which they were swept away in October 2012.

Nqutu municipal manager Bongi Gumbi said the storm lasted about one hour from 2 pm to 3 pm and it was vicious.
